Why I love Monochrome media?
There is something indescribably beautiful about the monochrome scale, that Simplicity.
It is somewhat unorthodox, to photograph a “woodland-scape” in black and white. Not the least because it lacks result, but rather MOST would desire to capture the different colors; In an environment which is muffled by dappled light, varying tones of green and brown – Earthy hues.. It almost seems insane, to take ALL THAT away.
And yet, I LOVE IT! Taking it all back to the basics, Looking for light patterns and dappled shade, seeking tones and shadows; Points of highlighted detail OVER beautiful color. It is that simplicity that sparks my creativity; A broken glass, an overexposed section of sky, gradient of light to shade. You see, you stop seeking pretty details, stop looking for say- Flowers amidst the fallen leaves and start looking for the smaller details you’d miss, were you to chase the pretty things.
As with all things, Colour captures the beauty of a subject, B&W captures it’s very essence.
